Thanks so much for coming to have a look at my site. My name is Nina Hodgson and I live and work in Brightons, Falkirk. I am a mum to 2 boys and have played the piano since I was 8.
Teaching piano is my passion. I was very fortunate to have a career in hospitality before I had my family but when my second son arrived it was no longer an option to continue so I started teaching – I wish I’d done it sooner!
My teaching is designed to help all my students to be able to play the style of music that they enjoy and be well rounded musicians. In order to achieve this I use a variety of teaching methods which include elements of Kodaly, Dalcroze and whole body learning techniques which help students learn to both play by ear and read music.
All lessons are with me and are on a 1-2-1 basis. I like to take the time to get to know my students and work out how they like to learn. I am then able to adapt my teaching techniques to suit.
Learning is also one of my passions and I attend regular training courses and workshops run by world leaders in the field of piano pedagogy. This not only helps me to remember what it feels like to be the student but also ensures that my students get the benefit of the most up to date teaching standards.
Due to Covid-19 all lessons are currently taking place online. No specialist equipment is needed, just access to a phone / tablet / computer (any one of these will do the job).
If exams are your goal then I have experience with all the major exam boards In both traditional and online formats. I have also helped students prepare for Nat 5, Higher and Advanced Higher SQA exam entries. Please note that exams are NOT a necessity.
I am very proud to be an active member of the Curious Piano Teachers and have recently completed and passed their Certified Curious training course.
I have a Higher National Diploma in Music, ALCM performance diploma on piano and am a full professional member of both ISM and EPTA. I am a registered private teacher with both organisations which means I have been through their vetting system, hold a current PVG check and follow their conduct and safeguarding procedures.
